Very Bad Poetry

Welcome to the last refuge for the world's worst poetry.

It's difficult to understand how, in this age of information, poems that merely miss the mark can be tossed into the cold world to fend for themselves, only to whither and be forgotten.

Please help us to help them to help us.

the story of a man

Eric Swanson

There once was a man from Nantucket
Who was afraid of kicking the bucket
From April to May
He was told to everyday
The cake was a lie
He wept with fear
And would rather much die
Than to live in a world without beer
He decided to bide his time
By playing in slime
He decided to write poetry
Instead of hiding in a tree
His friends mocked and teased
When the man fell on his knees
From the very tall oak
Which he never did woke
The doctor would say
The man couldn’t pay
So the body would rot
Without the warmth of a cot
The friends would spend the time
Complaining about how poorly he rhymed
No one would remember
The man by December
So by the end of the season
Without any particular reason
The finale would be rather unsatisfying
Thank you for trying.

Eric Swanson has published another poem since joining on 30/11/99. Read more of Eric's terrible poetry at the anthology. Here are three of Eric's latest works:
