insects
dustin burden
Tomatoes I cut with a black
Plastic grip kitchen-knife
with little rust spots here and there.
The little serrated edges spread out like
Centipede legs, a ridge of insect teeth.
The blade of a razor is a diamond
And I have no need of a shave.
Nor delicate symmetrical cuts
Of a precision I cannot feign.
After all, it is only tomatoes that
I cut.
I’d rather be leaning in
Pressure on the wrist
Letting the blade gently
Rot right through’em
Reveling in the gore
And razors?
They cut tomatoes like shit.
