Very Bad Poetry

while fertilizing the yard
my neighbor came up to me
and told me how
he fucked a man
in reno
just to see him come
his gaze made me uncomfortable
this was in the old neighborhood
when i was in high school
years later when i heard johnny cash
i remember my mom telling me
the neighbor's schizophrenic
because the crazy ones are the ones
who are always cataloging things
and referencing them
thinking the rest of the world
knows what they're talking about
or they're just unoriginal
but mostly theyre crazy and lazy

when i wrote more serious poetry
i would go to a restaurant
and read poems to denizens
who cared little
schmucks lined up every time
that was when i stopped writing serious
seeing a blind me
who had some drive him two hours
let someone else read his poetry
was death in itself

a teacher once told me that i was truly brilliant
then i dropped out of college
because i knew not how to accept it
like an asshole
and easily found a job
raking lawns
with other latinos who looked like me
i only speak spanish around them
my ex-boss didn't even know i was american,
the asshole

i used to race bicycles
with the neighborhood kids
the first girl i ever made love to
had blonde hair
i remember knowing
there in our jubilation
that i loved her
and that it was her
her eyes told me it was to be
so it was
then she moved away
and a younger couple filled
my love's home that was in need of occupancy
life was so much more beautiful then
now i live in a shithole
and don't have a girlfriend
my job information is on
craigslist*
monster, etc*
