You Can't Be Sad When You Have Macaroons
Graph Desino
I lay my head against the wall
My body splayed in a disheveled sprawl
Weakened heart burning in my chest
And mind unwilling to take a rest.
Contemplating painful things
Break-ups and disturbing dreams
With each moment, sinking lower
Praying it will soon be over.
After minutes of this, I decide to take charge
-Just a bit of dessert won’t make me large!
And perhaps, the sugar will serve to improve
My insufferable, angsty teenage mood.
I stand shakily and rub my eyes
In the kitchen, my sweet surprise.
Chocolate and coconut on demand
Indulgence no hormones can withstand.
Caloric bliss numbs my pain
(A long – term loss and short – term gain.)
But, alas, not doom nor gloom
Can outlast a macaroon.
