Very Bad Poetry

Welcome to the last refuge for the world's worst poetry.

It's difficult to understand how, in this age of information, poems that merely miss the mark can be tossed into the cold world to fend for themselves, only to whither and be forgotten.

Please help us to help them to help us.

The Definition of Peace

Amrita Gupta

Peace is to make a choice
You don’t have to be happy
You can be totally alone
And it’s okay
Everyone has different ideas
About the definition of peace

Peace is dying with no regrets
Ready to die
Being surrounded by loved ones
Surrounded by people everywhere
Floating in a moving current
And closing your eyes

Peace is to feel the water
Swirling around you
To know it’s there, to acknowledge it
To close your eyes
And relish the desolation
Of ignoring the tumultuous current

Peace is to understand
Even if you’re never happy
You’re jostled by the crowd
But no one cares about you
Hug yourself and realize it
Smile to yourself and be alone

Peace is to be open
Accept the good and the bad
Never be surprised by anything
A crushed love, a betrayal
Everything is so fake, something had to crumble
It was inevitable the whole time

I define being at peace
By being among many people
Yet completely alone
I desire the opportunity
To start over, make a new life
Somewhere no one knows my name

Peace is to not get what you want
And then realize you don’t need it
When the world, your world, ends
When all is said and done
You don’t need it to be happy
You don’t need to be happy
