The Call

George Bush

The call

I am called from the cliffs of Normandy from the rows of tombstones like bleached white teeth sticking up from the blood soaked soil.

I am called from the cemeteries of Virginia from places with names like Liberty, Lexington, and Bull run

I am called from the sizzleling sands of Baghdad, and the leech infested rice patties of Viet Nam

I am marching homeward today to join my living sons and brothers to remember the sacrifices of the dead and salute heroes still living.

Today of all days i live again, if only in the hearts and memories of the men who stand up and call to me across the ages as

"Veteran"
