Ode to an Empty Universe

Eden Jade

And of course, there is no real reason for the world.
We simply look at it,
pretty.
Pretty.
One might pat it on the head.
Smile bemusedly.
'When you're older, darling.'
Possible, the least enthusing condescension ever,
thus overused.

One finds oneself wishing to poke it with a stick
(the World, not the condescension);
In the hope that it will do something worthy of interest.
Beg. Sit. Roll over.
Speak.
Briefly, at least.
Of course, it doesn't.
But one wishes it none the same.
