You were
named Valentine, even though
we got you from the side
of the cage labeled "MALE HAMSTERS for $4.95"
We called you "Valers" for short
and laughed when you shoved peanuts
into your bulging cheeks
Your cage was always ugly
and smelled like crap usually
for this I am sorry
And when we bounced you in a sheet
I don't think you really liked it
we feel really bad about it now
I hope your cage smells better
wherever you are now
and that no one
tries to bounce you in sheets
because that would suck
