Lost Love
Skyler Latshaw
I lost you like a man loses the girl of his dreams.
In fact, exactly like that, it seems.
Once you were in my hand like a flower,
But now you’re not.
I am full of shame and loss,
And staring at your mint flavored dental floss
In my bathroom medicine cabinet shelf,
Knowing you’ll never use it again yourself.
I look at the couch in front of the TV
With the imprints in the cushions, yours next to me,
And think about how you gave me the slip
Like how I lost, in the sofa, countless potato chips.
And All the memories fade into my mind
Like a tiger in orange juice, impossible to find.
And I remember the times we spent in front of the tubey
Watching your soaps and my favorite, Judge Judy.
But now the verdict has come at last
And our sofa days are now in the past.
I spend every day and night in a daze
With my parents telling me it’s just a phase.
But it is not a phase in the least,
And I know that my attitude will not cease.
Because I am the one that loved you the most,
Just like Patrick Swayze in the movie Ghost.
I love you.
