Very Bad Archive

La Tour

Celeste Gray

She's so beautiful
bright against the dark sky at night
with her flashing lights
and fireworks
and wrought iron antiquity
reminding me of stories past
like Louis the Fourteenth,
or la Resistance,
fighting against tyranny.
She stands for a city,
a people,
the spirit of a nation,
and I cannot help but feel her power
all the way across the sea.
Yet in thirteen years of French class,
sweat and tears and hours spent
trying to understand her,
I have never learned to spell
Eiffel
correctly,
so I simply call her
La Tour.
