Feasting on Fraternity
Marie Burnett
once upon a time
i lived inside this poem
it was dark outside
and i was afraid
until i felt
the familiar
touch
the rich
texture
the radiant
warmth
of words
i took these words
made them my own
wrapped around me
like a cape
the words
swirled
the words
spun me
like a top
atop the words
i whispered, "shelter"
and i was inside
with a bed
a chair
a desk
soon
sooner than
one could imagine
i was sitting down
sipping iambic pentameter
gobbling guttural stops
gormandizing gratitudinously
and then
how i feasted
wow, how i feasted
when i began feasting upon
fraternity
