Alcoholism
Marlee Walters
Everyone’s a different drunk now.
He used to not get even tipsy.
His tolerance was high, he took care of everyone.
Now he’s texting when he shouldn’t, calling his ex.
He’s sloppy every weekend, and some Tuesdays.
He always buys a case.
Everyone is a different drinker now.
She used to drink socially, to have fun with friends.
Drinking was a game, the games made you drink.
It was all in good fun, a social lubricant.
Now she chugs down as much as she can,
Forgets as much as she can,
It’s the only way she can be with people.
Everyone drinks a different drink now.
He started with coffee, and coffee “liqu-cor.”
A little cheap beer that tasted like battery acid was all he needed;
He wasn’t drinking that much.
Now he’s belligerent at 7 o’clock,
Passed out at 10,
On tequila shots and rum with Dr. Pepper.
