A case for madness
Pena Michael
The sea is black.
Black like, really black. I mean
super black, so black all I can
see is black.
I drown in the black sea and sink to the
black sea's black bottom, so utterly
black that I cannot see anything, which
leads me to wonder how I know I am at
the bottom of the sea since I cannot see
anything but the black blackness of it all,
like swimming in the blackness of space,
but with no stars, so no that is not a
very good metaphor at all.
Then I go mad. Mad as a hatter. But
hatters aren't really mad anymore are they? I assume most hats are made by machines and probably aren't made with
mercury anymore, so what should it be?
Mad as an insane person? No, that's not very colorful. Mad as a person who makes it all the way to the end of this poem?
Yes, as mad as that!
